This mythologoumenon might be very old. Already in the Pyramid texts: “Nut has spread Herself over you in Her name of sow of heaven…”
Although [the] devouring in itself is destructive it may be seen as a necessary introduction to rebirth, life, and renewal. Nut [does] not give only death and destruction, [but She also gives and protects] life and renewal… The heavenly goddess gives light and darkness, life and death…
Many small amulets in Egyptian collections testify the theriomorphic form of Nut as a sow. These amulets do not stress the destructive voraciousness of Nut but on the contrary Her excessive fertility and life-giving powers who, as a sow, gives life to very many piglets.
