Moomas?

Can anyone explain to me what moomas actually is?

I think it has something to do with Nut and the book of the Celestial Cow… maybe?

Moomas is the term KO uses for all of the celestial cow celebrations that take place this time of year!

One event is when Hethert/Nut/Mehet-Weret raises Ra up to the sky (after the slaughter of mankind by Sekhmet) and she makes her descent back down to us.

The other event is that Hethert is returning from Nubia. She wanders off and it’s up to Djehuty and friends to convince her to return with song, dance, food, etc. This occurs around the winter solstice since the days start to get longer and brighter when the Wandering Eye travels back. This is the more joyous celebration.

The reason it’s called Moomas is because these holidays occur around the same time as Christmas, a holiday we all know of because it’s everywhere lol

@obsidianservant

Thank you so much!! This is really helpful 🙂 I had guessed some of it, but didn’t have a clear outline.

Are there any specific events or rituals associated with it? (I’m not KO and I know some rituals are KO only and I don’t want to tred in any toes if this is the case)

I didn’t realise it included the return of the distant goddess as I celebrate it in the spring 🙂

As a non KO kemetic, I celebrate The Establishment of The Celestial Cow with a nice offering to Mehet Weret, abstain from eating beef on that day, and make something for her, usually cow related and fairly simple, like a piece of beaded jewelry or origami cows, stuff like that. I’d love to actually make like a clay (polymer or otherwise) cow, but my sculpting skills aren’t up to it.

We really don’t know how it was celebrated in antiquity as it was a pretty minor holiday.

Thank you @obsidianservant and thank you @helvetica12point
