when Set and/or Heru try to explain to me how “becoming” the gods for spells works within the multiple nature of reality, i feel like a dog who saw their reflection in a mirror and is just. so fucking confused

k so, i’ve not studied this specific phenomenon very much, so this is all UPG

as i’ve experienced it, it’s not a change in identity or an ‘ascension’ like apotheosis in hellenismos; it’s more like, the parts of you that are similar to the deity are highlighted, for lack of a better word, you are ‘overlapping’ with the deity in these places/in these ways. because they are the god of the thing, all levels of the thing, including the individual level (which is you!); they have dominion over everything in their sphere of influence, and if you want to do this particular magic thing you become within that sphere. so they can act through you and you can act as them. to a certain extent you can feel what they feel and think how they think, as well. to achieve this you pretty much need to meditate on the deity and on ‘being’ them. (obviously you ought to ask the deity in question before doing all this, imo at least. idk how the ancients did it, exactly.) in this way it seems less like there is a definite “split” between God and Human; more like gods are a numerical entity multiplied to the nth, but you can still be that same entity. you’re not trying to be 7^10, you’re just trying to be 7! if you can be 7 then you can do magic that 7^10 can do, or maybe something close to it, anyways.

but then it gets to where once you’ve ‘separated’ they’ll show up and be like, i’m you! you’re me! and when you try to say no im not, im me and you’re you, they’re like “yeah, true, but you’re ALSO me!” and then they try to explain how it works to you but every time you just end up staring blankly bc even if some part of your subconscious understands well enough to do it your conscious brain is still Not Buying It cause that’s not how identity works. (everything is what it is, it cant also be other things, then everything could be anything and then it would be nothing. i think? idk. i had it for a minute and lost it again)
