If you were to explain hedgeriding to someone who knows nothing, what would you say to them?
“hedge” describes the boundary between this world/reality and the Other
hedgeriding is straddling it, like in a medium or trance state sort of thing when you have one foot in this world and one foot in another, and are relaying messages between or smth
hedgecrossing is where you go over.
astral travel, astral projection, flying, hedgecrossing– they all describe the same general thing (tho they have their own connotations): sending at least part of the mind/soul/consciousness out of the body
this is accomplished by trance or an altered state of consciousness. it can be improved/achieved with practice.
also you’re probably doing it fine. don’t overthink it. literally just do it
Witch tip
DO NOT CAST SALT CIRCLES IN FORESTS OR ANYWHERE IN NATURE.
By doing so you’re permanently harming the environment that you’re supposed to be worshipping and treating with respect.
“If working with salt please keep in mind that it is a natural desiccating agent, meaning it sucks out all of the water [therefore] it will kill your grass and destroy the surrounding soil, making it uninhabitable for plants and such.”
Wow, so I lost a lot of followers after reblogging the End Elitism In Witchcraft post, and partly because of that, I’d like to talk more on this topic.
Ending elitism doesn’t mean that you should stop being critical of things
Ending elitism doesn’t mean that you should automatically trust the effectiveness of spells, potions, sigils, etc on this website (god, please don’t do that)
Ending elitism doesn’t mean that you have to change your practices in any way
What it does mean is that if you see someone practicing their craft, and they say “This really works for me, I like it a lot,” it is not your job to turn up your nose at them and roll your eyes and make a big callout post about “fake” magic or “fluffy bunny” bullshit or whatever terms y’all are using nowadays.
If someone is posting things that could harm other people, then of course it’s okay to post about that! But looking at someone else’s craft, and their opinions about their craft, and saying that they’re lying/fake/childish is just bullying. That’s all it is.
Please, be critical about magic! Message people about the spells they’ve posted to see what their results were, talk to people about magic theory and what their opinions are regarding it, and take stuff you read with a grain of salt!
But don’t harass or bully people just because they do “low energy” magic, or emoji spells, or don’t cast circles, or happen to be teenagers just learning how this whole witchcraft thing works.
If you want to help people be into serious magic, then post about it. Help teach people things, rituals and spells that are solid and tested and have good results. But don’t look down on people who might not have the time and/or ability to perform full rituals all the time, and have to incorporate witchcraft into their lives in smaller ways.
(And if you don’t think that the placebo effect plays a part in witchcraft, that’s okay. But you have to understand that many witches have been incorporating the placebo effect into their craft for decades at the very least, and shaming and laughing at people isn’t really going to get you anywhere.)

There are so many points of view that I disagree with in the witchcraft community but the biggest one that I despise is that you have to perform action in order to execute successful magic. Not only can this be, and is fundamentally, extremely ableist, but it’s such a big way of gatekeeping it isn’t even funny.
To say that one can’t be a successful witch if they are unable to go through a lengthy ritual process involving circle casting or what have you is degrading witches who are unable to do that. Not to mention closeted witches who are unable to do more extravagant magic because of their poor or dangerous living situation.
I have performed so many successful spells based on intent alone and that is what works for me. As have others done the same. If such things don’t work for you, that is fine, but to discredit those who it DOES work for is disrespectful and downright elitist.
