I heard someone say that Christianity started out as Jewish heresy and over a period of decades it became a completely separate religion. I think that generalization has some merit.
Also Judaism evolved into something different as well. In some ways rabbinic Judaism didn’t settle itself and become the dominant approach of Jews until after the contours of what would become catholic Christianity were already in place. The Mishnah is from 150 CE, the Talmuds are from 400-600 CE. We’re looking at sister religions that both emerged out of the ashes of the Second Temple – not a mother and her daughter.
Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.— James 5:1-6
At first I thought this was an angry Tumblr post but then it turned out to be the Literal Bible and it got 1000x better
I could use this as a curse. The words of the bible have enough collective force behind them that I can probably get some decent effect from it too.
Honestly probably just saying it out loud will cause ructions of shock and alarm!
2. Listen to or sing hymns or Christian music while working on witchy stuff.
3. If you go to church or another place of worship, you probably get nice community vibes from being there. Channel that sense of community into your tools to charge them. (Though, I still recommend praying before use.)
4. If your place of worship has stained-glass windows, try to sit in the light coming through them. In my experience, it’s a very cleansing and spiritual experience.
5. Create spells based on Bible verses or passages, like a glamour based on Song of Solomon chapter 4, or a spell to be more patient with others based on Matthew 7:5.
6. If you have concerns about whether you can really be both a Christian and a witch, consider the Magi.
This past Christmas season, around the time I was beginning to think about becoming a witch, our interim pastor gave a message discussing the Magi. She pointed out that they were astrologers, and that the word Magic actually comes from the word Magi. They read the stars, and God lead them to His Son. They were shown the way to Jesus through their astrology.
I’m not certain if magic truly exists, though I WANT to believe in it. But I firmly believe, if it DOES exist, it exists because God created it, just as He created the universe and all within it. And I believe that, just like medicinal plants, humans can use magic for good and bad purposes; because that’s how God designed it, giving us the free will to decide how we will use it.
If you’re having a serious issue with debating whether or not you can be a Christian witch, take a break. Pray about it. Maybe God has a plan for you that doesn’t include witchcraft. But, if you’re feeling brief flashes of guilt and wondering if you’re sinning because you have a crystal in your pocket, think about the Magi. God used their astrological practices to lead them to His Son. Who knows what you’ll be led to experience?
The Holy Ghost window from the Altar of the Chair by kvnngyn
In works like the Gospel of Mary, there is no focus on the death of Jesus, or on guilt, repentance, atonement, lawmaking; order. The risen Jesus is a teacher, not a judge or a ruler.
I have a hard time with the concept of the Bible, since I have heard it being discredited and that it isn’t a good solid source of God’s word, since it was written by man. This has been a test of faith..I was wondering how to deal with it? Or..if there is a different way to think about it? It wasn’t, after all, written by Them but by humans.
Hello my friend, I am not a Christian witch, but I would like to put in my understandings towards the subject from my old christian practice, and life while growing up, and the information that I have from my family members. As the way I see it the Bible is not a good source of God’s words, because of how much it has been tampered with, but it does have some good understandings, and values for christians to know. It also contains the tradition, and culture of the religion which can be quite useful for remembering the practices, stories, and reasons for doing things, which can also help all Christians to be on the same page when it comes to worshipping God. A lot of the parts of the Bible were edited, and changed, but some of the core main messages do still remain inside its pages, and are worth seeking out, and understanding to bring you closer to god, and his words. But, you have to remember that God does speak through you and that he is constantly with you. The words of God are imprinted upon your soul, and in order for you to read them all you have to do is look within. The book can help teach you lessons, and to decipher that message, but you already have all that you need. The books of the Bible were written by men who experienced God in many different ways, and chose to write down their experiences in order to share that message, and to give Faith to those who needed it. So look within, hear God’s words, learn from the written word, follow your path, and you will do just fine.

Such a good insight! I also love everything else that you have stated. You are absolutely right. And it is comforting to think that it does still have the core of Christianity within some of its teachings. As you said, the tradition, culture, etc. Thank you for the help!

My mom always says that if God wants to reach you through a Dr. Seuss book, he’s gonna reach you. The text itself is not quite as important as what he himself has to say. There are inaccuracies, partly from translations and partly because we have a history of not liking our faults to be called out or wish to push our own opinions on others.
This is just where, when you read a passage, you just ask that he’ll give you an accurate interpretation and speak to you of what HE wants you to know, not what the ghost writers of the Bible want to say. Tell God that you don’t want to hear from them, that you want to listen to him and him only.
It’ll work out.
This is some good advice, thank you! I never thought of asking for Gods guidance before reading the book, which seems absolutely silly now that I think about it. I will try this ❤
Oolong tea – 5 bags – one per element, balance, good health
Green tea – 1 bag – Immortality and wisdom
White quartz – 1 – Enchance energies, amplify intent
Something to burn herbs in (metal tea infuser for me)
Rubbing alchoal / 90 proof alchoal / Florida water – spray into bath water in a cross pattern – cleansing, extinguish flames against you, dispels ill will, destroys malicious intent
Witch hazel – spray 3 over lapping circles in the bath working from head position towards the drain of the tub – Cleansing, extra magical strength, bring in beauty
Holy water – blessings, protection, purity, holy intervention, blessings from heaven
Pslams:
(pray in order)
104 – Bless tools and herbs (before bath)
75 – cleanse away & forgive sins
136- forgiveness of sin
88 – removes evil
89:19-21 – psychic vision (Replace David’s name with yours)
92 – bring good fortune
150 – Thanks to God (say after exiting bath)
♦️Step by Step:
Organize and bless all of the tools and herbs you’ll use before running the bath water.
Clean bathtub with rubbing alchoal / Florida water.
Add herbs to water (save a pinch of each to burn) and Pray psalms while bath is running.
Light candles and burn herbs – smoke cleanse everything at this point
Place saint icons and offering accordingly (this is how I did mine)
North corner – Earth – St Jude
East Corner – Air – Santo Niño
South corner – Fire – Guadalupe
West Corner – Water – White quartz (not a saint but it 2as placed with them to complete the circle)
Step into bath, kneel and greet each saint appropriately, and give offerings, working counter-clockwise starting with the Virgin of Guadalupe (or highest ranked spirit so-to speak. If you’re working with the Oishas or another pantheon that has specific orders for spirits do THAT)
♦️While in the bath:
Meditate on your life and confess the sins that weigh on your soul. Ask for them to be taken and destroyed.(say them out loud and ask for forgiveness and guidence)
Ask for all of the negitive emotions that bind you to be dispelled and removed.
In its place, ask for blessing of good energy (protection, love, compassion, understanding, enlightenment, etc)
You can’t JUST remove bad energy without replacing it with something, in this case some positives.
Splash the water over the top of you head while you ask for these gifts and as it trickles down visualize all of your sins and negitive energy and emotions washing away. What’s left is happiness and blessings in abundance
At this point, meditate in the bath water on any questions or concerns you may have. Focus on your breathing and allow yourself to transcend into a vision – state.
♦️As you Exit the bath:
Thank and dismiss the saints respectfuly starting with St Jude (or the space you ended when greeting them) then working clockwise.
Don’t let these herbs go down the drain just because it’s awful for your plumbing. Fish then out and throw them in the trash, coffee is okay to go down.
Let the water drain and take all your “bad” with it.
Pray Pslam 150 to thank God for the blessing and forgiveness you just received
Wash your face, brush your teeth, comb your hair – do your regular stuff to get ready
Once your done, take 1 drink of Holy water as a seal to the spell. It will be like a cork holding in the good while sealing out the bad. (And if you’re like me and getting ready to pass out by this point it’ll take you off the edge)
Alright kids, that’s it! You’re blessed and cleansed. Your sins have washed away and forgiven. You’re abundantly blessed and protected – pass it on.
Mary Magdalene on Easter Morn, a stain glass concept
Do not weep and grieve, nor let your hearts remain in doubt, for his grace will be with all of you, sustaining and protecting you. Rather, let us give praise to his greatness which has prepared us to become fully human.
