Because pagan/neopagan is basically anything NOT Christain or the other triad in the abrahamic religions. Plus, so many people have misconceptions about Hinduism (and/or Kali in general) so it helps give information about them. I’m saying this as someone who identifies as Pagan, myself.
“anything that isn’t Abrahamic is pagan” false, Hinduism is a Dharmic religion along with Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. These two groups (Abrahamic and Dharmic) are also joined by Taoic religions (which include Confucianism).
the term pagan being applied to non-Christian/Abrahamic religions is archaic and disrespectful – the term pagan is used “presuming a belief in false gods”
Organized Hinduism/vedic-puranic Hinduism is Dharmic. Some aspects are derived from various Indian indigenous belief systems. Those are the terms you should be using.
Repeat after me: label non pagan polytheistic beliefes as pagan is Disprectful.

Is it wrong as a kemetic to want to own a pet s/nake?
Hey!
Absolutely not!
First there is no rule against Kemetics owning snakes, and I can’t see why there would be one.
Secondly, snakes are adorable so have as many as you’d like.
And thirdly, if youre worries about any connection to the sn/a/ke, then don’t be. There are plenty of actual snake deities throughout the Egyptian pantheon, like Wadjet who was a goddess of Lower Egypt. Snakes were a creature to be feared as they could kill you, but they were also extremely useful to people on certain circumstances. For example if you had an granary, it was much better to find a snake there than an infestation of mice. Snakes were viewed as protective forces, like Wadjet who is the titular goddess of Lower Egypt and is depicted as a snake. Likewise the cobra was symbol of divine protection. And Meretseger, who was a snake, ‘she who loves silence’ who protected the Theban tombs from being disturbed.

There is nothing wrong with owning a pet snake, and if you’re hoping to get one you could name it after one of the snake deities! 😀
Hope this was helpful and answered your question, let me know if anything didn’t make sense 😀
