So spells are clearly a witches thing. Or also used in several cultures for healing etc. However, not many newer witches understand what a spell really is or how they really work. Heck, probably half of the community knows. I don’t think I am the only correct source, so please do look around and get more information.
Let’s get started.
———————–
What Is a Spell?
a form of words used as a magical charm or incantation; a state of enchantment caused by a magic spell; an ability to control or influence people as though one had magical power over them(google).
For our sake, a spell is simply used with words, ingredients, items and writing. Not all have to be involved though. And most of the time they aren’t used by everyone.
Do Spells Work?
For the most part? Yes. They do. However, sometimes they won’t and that’s okay too. It just means you need to do something different or figure out how it could have gone wrong.
What if a Spell Goes Wrong?
Try a spell reversal. A lot of people have resources on this, it’s a good thing to research especially before you start spell casting.
What Can Be a Spell?
Anything. A spell for bringing love to you all the way to cursing someone who has wronged someone else. These all account as spells.
Should I Use Protection?
Ignore how I worded that. But yes. You should use any form of protection you can from tailsmans to casting a circle. Even a small chant will be better than nothing.
A Spell of Mine Didn’t Work… What Do I Do?
Take notes on what happened. Give it more time to fully manifest. Be Patient. If you feel it genuinely didn’t work you can try again, but do give it time. It might not have worked in the way you wanted it to.
How Do Spells Work?
Most of the time it’s all about energy, intent, visualizing the outcome you want, and manifesting it. While you don’t inherently need tools or ingredients(some will say otherwise) they can be helpful to give your spell an extra oomph you need especially if you don’t have a lot of energy yourself.
What Do I Need For Spells?
A Book and a Pen. All to take notes and write out your spell. Again, you don’t need anything at all for spell casting. They may be helpful, but not needed at all.
For the most part yes. The ones posted are usually meant to be used for others to help them. I typically use the spells posted to help me make my own though so it’s up to you.
How Do I Know My Spell Worked?
Did the outcome you want come? Then yes. If your unsure then go search out some answers. Tarot, or some other form of divination can be helpful.
Are Spells and Rituals the Same?
In my own personal opinion? No. To others they may be the same, but for me they have different energies. A ritual is set in stone, copied almost every time you reach a certain point. A spell is something you can do on a whim. But again. My Own Opinion. Others may have something else to say about that. It’s good to look into it though.
How Do I Write My Own Spells?
Here’s a little template for you to help as I’m not the best at wording most of the time:
1. A title for your spell
2. The Intentions you have for the spell
3. The Date, time and Moon Phase(moon phase and time are optional. Date is helpful.)
4. The Items/Ingredients you need(if any at all)
5. Any words/chants you plan to use or used.
6. Instructions!
Anyways, I wouldn’t take too much spell writing advice from me as I usually write out my spells after I cast them.
Again, I’m not a full expert on this process. I probably never will be, but I hope this is slightly helpful for those who are trying to figure it out.
So I saw thisYoutube video teaching you how to make an origami house box and I thought to myself ‘how can I use this in my craft?’. I love origami and I’ve been using it in my own practice for a few years now. From origami boxes filled with witchy goodness to origami bunnies decorating my altar (to help bring me lucky of course). So of course I came up with a home protection spell. And because I’m someone who never seems to have the supplies I need to do what I want I also included some alternatives and some extra little tips. Enjoy
What you’ll need:
An origami house box in whatever color you associate with protection, for me that is black.
Whole Cloves (but you could also use cinnamon or holly instead) for protection.
Dried Orange Peels (you could also use pine instead) for blessings.
After you’ve made your origami house box (be sure to really envision your intention and main goal while making this box) put it aside for now.
Grab your dried orange peels (be sure they are dried) and cloves and begin poking the cloves into the orange peels, again while envision and really focusing on your intention. You could even say a mantra while doing this.
[Alternatives: If you’re using cinnamon & orange peels just sprinkle the cinnamon onto the orange peels. If you’re using pine with any of the other choices just simply mix them all together. ie. pine and holly or pine and cinnamon or pine and cloves.]
Place your orange peels (or mixture) into the box, close it and place somewhere that you’ll see it everyday. You’re altar or by you’re front door would be a great idea.
Extra Tip: If you live in a home on wheels (tiny home or RV) and you’re traveling a lot place a tigers eye in your box for extra protection while traveling. If you don’t live in a home on wheels you could add a clear quartz.
Another tarot inspired spell, this time this gives one strength.
What You’ll Need
The Strength tarot card
A red candle
Sun water
A bowl
A small jar
a Bay leaf
Optional: An agate
What To Do
Fill your bowl with sun water.
Take your candle and place it behind the bowl and light it.
Optional: Put your agate on the bottom of the bowl.
Take the bay leaf and put in the bowl.
Lay your card in front of the bowl with Strength.
Take your candle and drip the wax around the bay leaf floating in your bowl, put back the candle afterwards.
As the candle burns say/think “Oh card of Strength give me yours, help me become strong so I may face the world.” as many times as you wish.
After you’re done saying/thinking the chant mediate on the cards for a little while.
Once you feel you’ve mediated enough take your bay leaf, dry it, and burn it (carefully) with your candle. Collect the ashes of the bay leaf and keep them in a jar nearby (optional: dry off your agate as well and keep it under your pillow.)
End the spell by blowing out the candles and dispose of everything properly.
Sick and tired of feeling lonely? Like your closest friend is your cat? Or are you simply lacking in vitamin D (or v for that matter)….?? Boy have I got the spell for you!!!!
HERES HOW ITS DONE.
1. Place your rose quartz in front of you, the bowl behind it, and then the candle behind the bowl. In a line… much like the one the boys/girls will be making for you after this spell ;))
2. Light your candle and incense
3. Now on your piece of paper. Write your intent- who/what you want to attract, etc.. this can be as short or as long as you want. However you like.
4. Chuck this piece of paper in your bowl
5. Sprinkle your rose and lavender into the bowl
6. Visualise the energy from the flower being absorbed by the paper.
7. Wave your hand or wand over the bowl and allow the bowl to absorb your energy.
8. Place the paper herbs and rose quartz into a cute lil sachet, seal the spell by making a circle with the candle under the sachet, and then whack that bad boy into your pocket. (Or give it to the person you want to attract)
This jar spell will help if you have a test coming up you aren’t sure about or you need some extra luck for something you’re not sure how it’ll turn out. I love this one because it’s short, simple, easy, cheap, and can be customized!

for visually, symbolically and astrally parting ways with the old in order to make room for and affirm what lies ahead. written for new years, but may be done at any time of the year. cleanse and ground yourself before and after this spell.
Materials
🕯 an almost finished/small tea light candle
🕯 a new candle
✨(optional) old items from the relationship, habit, or period of time that you intend to release with love; something to write with and on to affirm the life you’re moving towards
Directions
🥀 set the smaller, older candle on the left. light first. place any materials or representations that remind you of the old relationship you seek to release beside the candle.
🌹 place the newer candle on the right. light second. you might want to write intentions, sigils or affirmations here for the reality that you are moving into.
🌷 the candles have now opened up a portal where you can speak freely and communicate with what you seek to release. talk about why you’re leaving them behind, why you are ready to move forward and into a healthier place. as you watch the older candle’s flame flicker and fade, imagine the past dissipating into the background of your consciousness until you no longer have residual feelings. shift your attention to the newer candle, watch its flame dance and rise and glow brightly. imagine yourself stepping into a brighter, more energetic and promising reality. affirm what you need to and peacefully part ways with the flame of the old candle.
☁️ allow the old candle to burn all the way out. when you are ready to blow out the new candle, do so and affirm that you’ve closed the portal to the past. it no longer holds you back from your progress and you are now within the new reality you’ve affirmed.
