a spell to help cleanse and declutter any area or aspect of your life, leaving you with the perfect degree of minimalism for you.
☽ w h a t y o u w i l l n e e d ☾
• one white candle of any scent, size, or shape
• a piece of paper
• a pen or pencil
• (optional) clear quartz of any shape or size, the clearer the better
☽ s t e p s ☾
(note: i prefer to do this during a new moon as a representation of new beginnings, and this spell will be more powerful during a new moon, but other than that the lunar phases should not affect this spell.)
1. (optional) reflect on what it is you wish to declutter with a clear quartz near your heart or head for clarity. this clarity will aid you when you need to think clearly about what is it you need, want, and will discard.
2. write down whatever it is you wish to declutter, whether it be your room, your mind, your closet, etc. or something much more specific, such as the middle shelf of your bookcase.
3. light the candle closest to whatever it is you will be decluttering.
4. let the candle burn for a minute, and quietly observe the flicker of the flame. once the minute is up, place the paper you’ve written on over it, and let it burn. snuff out the candle once you’re done and let the smokey intent cleanse the area.
5. begin decluttering, and hold your clear quartz if you begin to feel overwhelmed. throwing out trash and taking out plates, cups, or other silverware is the best way to ease into this spell’s effect. you can move onto bigger messes later.
☽ n o t e s ☾
• sigils burned alongside the paper can be used in conjunction with this spell.
• this spell lasts until you go to bed, and can be repeated as many times necessary.
• this spell can be used as a foundation for a more specific, personalized decluttering spell. the clear and white colors allow for mixing and creativity to your heart’s content.
This is pretty straight forward. Donald Trump is once again putting his life above hundreds of thousands of people. Immigrant children in and coming to the U.S. are being separated from their parents and families while their families are being imprisoned. This is a spell specifically to help the children and their families.
What You Need:
Sage(can be replaced with rosemary/incense)
Lavender(Incense is fine)
Pictures of the detention centers/families
Salt
White Candle
A stone you associate as a protection stone(tigers eye, bloodstone, black tourmaline, etc).
A symbol of protection(watchful eye, animal totem(if that’s your culture), Thor’s hammer, etc. something that can be used to protect anyone).
Bonus: If you have a sigil to use that’s great if note Algiz,
Ansuz,
Tiwaz, and Fehu are great protection runes to carve into the candle.
Optional: You can add as much to this spell as you please but keep it around the original intents and purpose.
What To Do:
Hallow the ground your working on(I chose that because I work with Thor you could also cast a circle, bless that four cardinal directions, etc.)
Carve whatever sigil or runes into the white candle and light it.
Clear your mind and close your eyes. Picture a healing, protective, white light surrounding the children and their families in the detention centers and those who are on their way to cross the board/currently attempting.
Send them healing and safe energy.
Light the sage and lavender.
Call upon whatever spirits, deities, or ancestors you work with to help protect the children.
“With a heavy heart, I ask you to protect the immigrant children and ask that no more harm is done to them. I ask that you keep them under your gaze and keep them safe until they are reunited with their families. I ask that their families not be harmed while they are separated and that the children are strong enough to work through the fear.”
Sprinkle salt around all of your protection spell items.
“May the harmful and negative energy directed towards immigrant children and families in the U.S. be cleansed.”
You may call upon any higher energies to help you if you desire. Picture the person in your mind that you wish to send healing energies to and focus on their existence–their being.
Imagine taking away their illness, pain, etc, and replacing it with healing, protecting light.
Begin to chant a spell that creates the energy you want to send forth.
Short Example Spell:
“I banish these forces of malice and spite, And send forth to you the Healing Light.”
I have a feeling I’ve done one of these before… But there has been a request for a new compilation of spells to keep one safe from harm. And since God knows that no matter how hard I tag it, my stuff is never really organized… Have a new list.
This Is Not A Drill, I’m giving you a month notice!
Prepare yourselves witches and bitches because good news is incoming.
July 13, 2018
Is a Friday
Is a New moon
Has a partial solar eclipse
Is 12 days before Mercury in Retrograde in Leo begins.
It is such a freak of nature event it won’t happen again until June 13, 2132.
IT IS A PERFECT DAY FOR MAGIC. Here are some ideas or jumping off points regarding this day and night!
New moons are good for banishings, ending of cycles, new beginnings, baneful magic, spell negation/undoing, secrets. I also view new moons as a time of truths as the dark moon is the moon’s natural state (it does not have its own luminescence.)
Fridays are related to the planet Venus, relate to love, relationships, passion, potential.
Eclipses are connected to potential, completion, rarity, perfect timing. Some believe that it encapsulates an entire season or month as you see moon, sun, and lack of moon at the same time. Death, rebirth, and possibility (a night within a day)
The Rabbit’s Foot
The tradition in America of carrying a lucky rabbit’s foot is one of many cultures that have thought the rabbit has brought luck, and prosperity, but using it for protection and safety as well as luck has come from African Hoodoo tradition. According to certain hoodoo lore, the lucky rabbits foot could only be made on a new moon and a Friday (other lore says full moon on Friday). The rabbit had to be caught (some cases caught by hand, others, shot with a silver bullet) in a graveyard (any graveyard, but the original states it had to be a black or slave graveyard) at midnight.
This combination of acts, being so hard to fulfill was offered to the spirits as a sort of penance or trial by fire to prove worth and offering to protect the owner of the foot from supernatural forces and act as a road opener. As part of hoodoo tradition this isn’t something that I suggest you do. I share it as an example of how an auspicious day like this was used in the not so distant past. And how folklore, magic and amulets of cultures can be white washed and trickle down into everyday life.
The Alraun
Also known as alraune or plant familiar was a process of creating a vessel for a spirit familiar out of a root. The creator would go out and harvest a cthonic or poisonous herb (traditionally mandrake, bryony, or dandelion) on a new moon and Friday. A circle around the plant would be drawn, the root dug up after conferring with the spirits and choosing which one would inhabit the vessel. The roots are washed in wine, fed milk, honey and a drop of blood and carved with features resembling a human. The top removed and the root trimmed, it would then be brought home. Cleansed and covered in a clean cloth (a funeral shroud) it would be stored in a handmade box (the coffin of the alraun). The spirit would be fed and cleansed monthly (or weekly) in return for doing the bidding of the owner. The lore for the alraune is so varied it can make your head spin, for more examples and information, here’s an article that covers history, culture, historical reference and some examples of “requirements”.
Divination
With so much happening, divination is an excellent thing to do on this day. As an eclipse (visible or not) is a rarity that encompasses an entire year in a moment in some traditions. You could do a year ahead spread with tarot or oracle cares to gain some insight on what’s to come. Try your hand at a new type of divination as new beginnings and skills are represented by this day: scrying, candle reading, runes, casting lots etc.
Prosperity
Bayberry is very connected to prosperity and money drawing spells. As it is so costly to produce, it is usually saved for special occasions or to mark a prosperous future at the beginning of the new year.
Cleansings/Grounding
As stated, new moons and eclipses are connected to new beginnings, breaking cycles and habits and one of the easier ways to get started on that path is to cleanse or ground yourself, your tools, and your space. Take a ritual bath using seasonal herbs and flowers! Save yourself some clean up and place in a sachet and toss in your bath.
Spirit Work
As this is a day that is so unique, connected to witches through lore of Friday the 13th and the moon crossing over the sun, it makes sense that the veil would be thin on this date. Already the Friday and new moon have be referenced as a creation date for a spirit familiar, but contacting spirits, working with house spirits, fae and deities would be something to consider. A rare occasion, as if Samhain or Walpurgisnacht suddenly appeared is what this can mean for you and your workings. Pay homage to your ancestors and guides, they deserve it.
Make some powders, portable spells, or even hex powder!
Create a tool of your own, by hand. Make a wand, a spirit board, your own black scrying mirror.
Prepare for the mercury in retrograde if you’re susceptible by making a charm, carrying a blessed nail or spike, supercharging wards, protections or shields, whatever floats your boat!
These are just a few things to consider! As the Summer solstice is in a little over a week, you could consider utilizing the solstice to gather, collect and prepare for another working the following month. Whether that’s infusing an oil, making moon water for a full cycle or creating bundles of herbs to burn, have at it! I’d love to see what y’all come up with 🙂
One last thing, tonight is a new moon as well, so beginning something to prepare would be a wonderful idea. Make some black salt that you charge on your altar from new moon to new moon. Make a poppit and complete a bit each day until next month. Try some sympathetic magic and see how much can be accomplished in a month, that ends in a year.
I hope you are excited, I know I am. And my group of witches are planning a ritual ourselves for next month.
Lately, I’ve been really drawn to reading through my old grimoires, and feasting upon old ideas that are starting to resurface in my dreams. I used to be fascinated by the idea of turning into animal. Indeed, when I was younger I would often travel in my dreams as a wolf, waking up with what one author called the “wolf spittle”, though at the time I did not realise this was what it was. I’ve been turning into a raven, more recently, but I sometimes still feel the wolf deep within my bosom.
The old stories of werewolves were never about being bitten, and then turning into a wolf at the full moon. No, they were also, as the witches, separated into groups of werewolves, though I hesitate to call such groups “covens”, the name seems appropriate. If we look even further back we see magicians donning the skins of wolves, and transforming into these dire beasts to roam the world. Or we see berserkers wearing a bear pelt and shapeshifting into terrifying beasts. Sometimes, we read of sorcerers smearing ointments on their skin, which helps them to magically change into an animal.
This latter idea persisted well into the 17th century. Many accused werewolves claimed that they became wolves by smearing an ointment upon themselves. This is rather reminiscent of the witches using a flying ointment to help them fly to the sabbat. There were some werewolves that claimed to able to go down into hell and battle with other werewolves to stop them stealing crops, which reminds me of the Italian Good Walkers.
Below I wrote up a quick little ritual inspired by these folkloric myths, as well as a recent re-reading of Nigel Jackson’s The Compleat Vampyr. I want to make it noted that I myself have never attempted this ritual, and therefore it is a work in progress. However, from what I have experienced with spirit flight, this just seems a logical leap. Spirit fills form. To our ancestors, who were most likely in the throes of ecstatic trance, or high out of their minds, the was no separation between their body laying catatonic on the ground and what they were experiencing in spirit flight. Today, many sorcerers experience a sensation of bi-location: of being in their beds, but also having shapeshifted outside of their body.
That being said, I have seen a pack of men shapeshift into wolves and chase down a deer (also, incidentally, shapeshifted). They were men in body, but wolf in spirit. And they certainly seemed like wolves to me as they ran by, their eyes rolling with feral hunger, a couple of them even so low to the ground that they could have been running on all fours! A good friend of mine has even recounted the story of a man she saw at a festival who was truly a wolf-man, his hair ragged, his nails long and yellow, his teeth ferocious. It is possible to go too far on the path of the shapeshifter, and remain trapped as an animal forever. We must always remember our humanity.
So, let us begin.
At the full moon, take yourself away to some liminal place, such as a crossroads, a cave, a border, or even a graveyard. There you shall light candles giving a dim light, as well as certain resins and incensum of an earthly and mercurial nature (pines and such). Face the north, that dark realm of spirits, and begin your incantations.
There are many traditional incantations of transformation, such as Isobel Gowdie’s famous chant to turn herself into a hare. Perhaps the incantation is spontaneous, making the noises of that which you wish to change into. Or perhaps, as recommended by Nigel Jackson, you intone the name of the Dark Wolf God Volkvh/Pykkulos/Velinas. It is good and appropriate to make a sacrifice at this point, maybe even of a live animal. How visceral.
Smear noxious ointments of shapeshifting upon your skin. Or perhaps drink deeply of a red wine. Don the pelt of the animal skin, and begin to dance as you chant, and drum. Spirit fills form: Take to the form of a wolf, melding the body to its shape. Howl, growl, snap your jaws, bark, and yip.
This ecstatic chanting will eventually, if you allow it, lead the body into a state of immobility. From the Sorcerer’s Trance, your consciousness shall fly out and take the form of the wolf. Spirit is malleable, and easy to shape. Your body is to the world as one dead, but the spirit flies free and roams the world as a wolf.
As you must, you will return to your body. You have died, and have been reborn. And so it is.
I find it interesting that there are so many parallels between shapeshifting trance, and flying to the sabbat trance. The body lays catatonic, dead to the world. Le petit mort, the little death, the ecstatic trance.
I do not need to remind you, dear reader, that, because of this vulnerable state of the sorcerer, we are in danger. Whether because of possible spirit possession, or the discovery of the body by less than welcome humans, it is intelligent to guard the sleeping sorcerer with protective amulets and wards. And even better than that is having a trusted friend by your side to watch over your body until you revive.
Eyes are one of the most important organs within the body as sight allows you to bind the perception of the spiritual with the physical, and thus allowing for visualisation and energy manipulation. With practice, one can train themselves to see the unseen, or influence the world around them – invisible to others.
In order to influence a person’s thoughts or actions using “glares” it may be necessary to use physical representations of the desired effect as a starting point. Such is easily achieved through the process of makeup application, or alternatively, using enchanted water or ointment over the eyes. However, the effect is best achieved through the combination of both. With time and practice, these can be disregarded as you will have trained yourself to automatically influence someone or something as you become accustomed to transmuting energy from your eyes to the target.
How It Works
Think of an emotion or state of being you want the person to experience.
Visualise it and manifest the feeling within yourself.
Hold onto that emotion and bring the awareness of it towards your eyes.
Project it towards the eyes of the person, visualising a line of a corresponding colour (for example, if you wish to influence them with the emotion of love, pink would be a corresponding colour) acting as an energy exchange point.
While projecting, an appropriate glare must be used (in reference to the example above, you would have to look at them as if you are truly in love with them at that moment of time).
Consciously exchanging an emotion and directing it towards the eyes of the target disallows them to block it off as eyes tend to be the most vulnerable organs during physical communication. Hence many people who are not comfortable with allowing strangers or others to influence them may wear darkly tinted sunglasses or eyewear in order to reject emotional exchanges (and can also be used as a form of protection).
Adding Magick to the Technique
If you know that you will face a certain situation and you want it to play out in your favour, you can design a spell that aids you in the manipulation of others and the world around you.
An easy way of experimenting is decorating your eyes with necessary symbolism. For example, if you are afraid of walking outside alone and are prone to being catcalled, whistled at, or approached generally, you can strike fear into the eyes of your target that will prevent them from approaching you as it serves as a warning sign. This can be done beforehand at home by glamouring your eye makeup. Now in this example, as you wish to use your eyes as a form of protection or fear, black eyeshadow would equate to the corresponding energy colour projected from your eyes towards the target. But in order to maximise this effect, dipping your eyeshadow brush into a bowl of blessed water (water gathered from a storm has particularly lethal energy) that has been charged by corresponding herbs* and crystals (in this instance, I personally use Jet crystals, storm water, and black salt) will greatly help. The eyeshadow then binds to the metaphysical properties of the water, and thus infuses your eyes with the desired magickal power.
*Make sure that the herbs do not cause inflammation and are safe on skin contact. A list of crystals that become toxic in water can be found here.
The next step would be to create an incantation to either verbally or mentally use whilst you perform the energy exchange with the target using your eyes. Short, simple phrases are more effective – especially when they are commands. This is because the incantation influences the energy line you project, and as a result, influences the mind of the target. In this example, if you wish for the target to back off, you can say or think a command such as “beware my stare” or “stay away today”. Anything that rhymes is preferable but not necessary, but they are easier to remember and concentrate on.
So to sum it up in the example of influencing someone to fear you:
Beforehand, you would magically empower your eyes through applying black eyeshadow or general eye makeup with a brush dipped in corresponding blessed water (storm water, black salt, Jet) in order to achieve the necessary symbolism.
Once you have a target, lock eye contact.
Invoke the emotion of fear – see it, feel it, sense it completely within your body.
Bring this awareness towards your eyes and set an appropriate glare (eyebrows raised down into a look of anger would be suitable).
Say your desired incantational command.
Project your energy and feel the fear leaving your eyes through the energy line and entering the eyes of the target.
Break direct eye contact in order to severe the psychic link so that the energy cannot be transferred back to you, and stays within your target.
As a result, your target will be fearful from approaching you.
As this serves as a basic example, you can now experiment with this technique using different emotions to serve your need. This type of magick will take a lot of practice to master, but over time you will be able to do so without having to prepare beforehand with ingredients and simply use your eyes in their natural state. A good word of advice from me personally is to practice this in the mirror – as mirrors are astral reflections, you will be able to feel the effects of the spells on yourself (but in this case use benevolent magick as you do not want to cast anything negative on yourself).
A spell to manifest something into your life, to be performed under the new moon.
You will need :
🌑 Jar or other container 🌑 Water 🌑 Black food colouring (or any colour you associate with nothingness) 🌑 Square white paper (or any colour you associate with existence) 🌑 A new moon
What to do :
🌑Fill your jar with water. 🌑Write down on the paper what you’re trying to manifest, and then fold it into an origami shape. It doesn’t have to be overly complex, it just has to be something other than a square. It helps if there’s a correspondence between what you’re manifesting and the shape you fold your paper into. 🌑Put the folded paper into the water and then add your food colouring. 🌑Leave the jar with the water and paper in it outside to charge in the new moon’s moonlight. 🌑 In the morning, take the jar back inside and keep it somewhere it won’t be touched by moonlight from other lunar phases. The universe will start aiding you in the manifestation now.
As the paper disintegrates, your desire will be in the process of manifesting. Once your paper is nearly gone, your desire will have completely or almost completely manifested, as long as you’ve followed the correct path during this to make it happen.
