Both, in a way.
Not sure how to properly explain it. I definitely think that the mythos written throughout the history always corresponded with what was going on in the Egyptian civilization. Politics mainly, their way of life. But through that, at the same time, in a way I see that as the civilization learning more about the Netjeru and Their stories through that. Like, with working with Them, speaking to Them, in personal prayer. Learning more about Them in that way. And everyone’s first impression or even thorough impression of a deity is different from someone else’s, which is why I also think there are SO many different versions of the same story. Tale Of Two Brothers, the creation story, etc.
For example, someone who is a patron of Seth will see a story from his perspective, a patron of Horus will see his perspective, etc.
I also take some aspects literally. Creation, The Book of The Dead, Ma’at, etc.
I do think that the spiritual allegories are literal as well but more like, these are the lessons the Netjeru wish for you to learn, but it’s of course fiction. They never actually did such things, however They are the main characters in the story who help teach said lesson. It’s a message They are trying to send to the people.
