My design for an Egyptian Phoenix based off of the solar deity, the Bennu. Historians believe that the origins of the Western phoenix can be traced to the Bennu which represents rebirth. While the Bennu is usually depicted as a grey heron, I made the plumage for my design scarlet to establish a connection to modern day interpretations of phoenixes. I’m hoping that this will end up being the first in a series of phoenixes and phoenix-type figures from mythology around the world.
