A thought on “stuff”
I see a lot of posts here about how you don’t need fancy things (candles, crystals, jewelry, statues, whatever) to be a legitimate witch/pagan/etc. And that’s totally true! You don’t need a house full of ☆~WiTcHy ShIt~☆~ if you don’t want it or can’t afford it. No god worthy of your time will turn you away because you only have a black and white printed picture of them for your altar; no spell is going to not work because your candle is from the dollar store instead of Etsy. That’s so true and so, so important to remember.
However, I feel like these posts make it sound like having all that aesthetic stuff is a ruse, like you’re just in it for the cool jewelry and Instagram photos and if you need that stuff then YOU’RE the one who isn’t legitimate. And that’s not true either. Lots of people need/want that “fancy” stuff around them because it’s familiar, it’s comfortable, it’s calming. I know that for me, being able to look around and see my crystals and candles and such can be very grounding when I’m in an anxious, depressed, or doubtful state. When I’m away from home, my devotional jewelry and other small items serve as an anchor during panic attacks.
I’m not saying this to start any drama, I’m really not. I’m just saying that different people need or want different things and that’s cool and totally okay. 🌒🌕🌘
