You Don’t Worship Aphrodite

For all the modern day “devotees” who claim to honor the Lady of Smiles but completely disrespect her in every way.

Stop declawing her. Aphrodite isn’t just love and sex, stop chalking her up to just being a vain bimbo. Aphrodite is the Killer of Men, She Who Lays Upon the Graves. She doesn’t support your poop fetish either .

Aphrodite does not hate gay men and lesbians, or “terfs ” as you like to call us now. She sees us and the way you make us suffer for our attraction, and she does not smile upon you. She protects us. Stop saying she’s too stupid to acknowledge biology, something She helped create. Just because she’s loving doesn’t mean she’s stupid. (Don’t even try to bring up Hermaphrodite. In order for intersex people to be intersex there would have to be two sexes in the first place. Not to mention, if you actually read the myth, they weren’t born that way. Aphrodite gave birth to a son and he fell in love with a woman. They loved each other so much that they asked to never be separated, and She made it so they fused into one being, never to be separated again).

Stop calling her a man in a dress. She does not have a penis or a beard or any of that. She is a female, with a womb and a vagina, she has given birth to several gods and goddesses. To imply that a woman must be a secret man in order to be powerful is fucking sexist. You don’t need a penis to be powerful or divine. Stop “”“”“"headcanoning”“”“”“” her. She’s not your fucking fandom. None of the gods are, they are ancient traditions and religions that deserve to be treated with some fucking respect.

Aphrodite is a woman. She is a Goddess. She is a Goddess of Love, beauty, sex, war, women, fertility, curses, and so much more.

And if you claim any of these things about her:

You don’t worship her.

1. Aphrodite was never a god of war. Athena was the god of war in a sense of battle strategies, while ares was a god of brute force fighting. Aphrodite was neither of these, and to make her out to be so goes completely counter to what she actually is a god of. Love.

2. She’s not the goddess of womenhood. That’s hera. You’re literally mixing up your gods here. Hera is the god of women. She has been since the Mycenaean pantheon before Ancient Greece.

3. She was literally the patron god of prostitutes. Go to the remains of any brothel from Ancient Greece and you will find her name.

4. Yeah of course she supports gay love. That’s her job. She supports love no matter who’s involved. Because she is the goddess of love and beauty.

5. “Headcanoning” buddy, is the result of disparite interpretations from various social groups and cults surrounding her. What is “canon” is difficult to say since there’s a hell of a lot of variety in how different myths are told. And while there is a base to work on, as I’ve mentioned, you clearly don’t know what is canon since you can’t even remember which goddess is goddess of what thing.

6. Aphroditus exists as a male counterpart to Aphrodite. Now while some people like yourself might argue that makes him a separate god, considering in the Linear B inscriptions found predating Ancient Greece show a female variant of Poseidon’s name, it’s entirely possible that Aphroditus is her Male form, and she switches between them. But hey, you can “headcanon” that however you want.

7. Seriously god of curses? Magic is hecates thing where the hell are you getting this from?

8. “Killer of men” ok so some of you people seem to think she was a lesbian? As far as I’m aware there’s like no evidence to support that. The thing she’s most well known for is having an affair with ares. Seriously at best she was a bisexual, but she’d still love people regardless. Because:

9. As a god of love, more god of all love since the Greeks acknowledged there were different types of love, she is a generally cool god. She seems to be generally friendly, and her most consistent characterisation is that of…Well, a shipper fan girl. Seriously, look at what she did to Helen of Troy. She’s the one who caused the Trojan war because she thought Paris and Helen would be cute together. In the Aeneid, she knows that hera is plotting against her son Aeneus, knows that matchmaking him with Queen dido is a trap…and she still does it. Because what she’s shown to care about most is love, and the beauty that brings.

Tldr: Your knowledge of Greek myths needs serious revising, you mix up gods, you ignore elements of her characterisation, and your ideas about what Aphrodite is like is completely clouded by your own dogmatic world view.
