Day 12 of Inktober

Seth, god of the desert, chaos and just plain evil. He may be an imaginary animal with a droopy snout and rectangular ears but he’s decided it’s metal (like the iron the Egyptians called ‘bone of Seth’) and moved onto not giving a sh*t.

Seth is an interesting god because his characteristics changed a lot during the thousands of years he was worshipped. During the Middle Kingdom, he was part of the sun god’s entourage, standing in the front of the boat to repel Apophis. The foreign Hyksos rulers assimilated him with the Levatine storm god Baal (depicted on Seth’s shirt). He’s always been characterised as having a temper but during the New Kingdom he was even told to lurk around in the afterlife capturing wandering souls. But he was also clever and strong so pharaohs were not opposed to being connected to him.
